Baptisms, weddings and funerals

Baptism
Following preparation the sacrament of Holy Baptism takes place following the main Sunday Sung Eucharist.

Weddings
We welcome applications for the sacrament of Holy Matrimony from anyone who qualifies under the Church of England Marriage Measure (2008).

Funerals
Support and guidance with funeral arrangements are available from the Parish Office.
Baptisms
Baptism is open to all—adults and children. All baptisms at St Anne’s take place within the main Sunday 10am service on the first Sunday of the month. We do not hold private baptisms. Those who are too young to make the baptismal commitment for themselves are asked to come with parents and godparents, who make the commitment on behalf of the child and who are themselves baptised. If you are new to the church, you will be invited to come and have a chat with the vicar beforehand, so you can get to know each other before the service.
Weddings
Weddings at St Anne’s are glorious occasions and are available for couples who have a strong connection with the parish. St Anne’s Church, Kew is in high demand, so we are strict in our interpretation of the criteria to get married here.
This church hopes for full marriage equality for same sex couples, and our PCC has voted enthusiastically for it here, but, unfortunately, the Church of England is not yet there. If you are considering a blessing for a Civil Partnership or another way of marking your commitment before God, the vicar would be very happy to discuss the possibilities. The eligibility criteria are the same as for marriage at St Anne’s.
Music for a wedding can be discussed with the vicar or director of music. We can arrange a choir or soloist if required, which will be an additional cost, depending upon numbers and what is required.
You can marry or have a service of blessing at St Anne’s if you can show that one of you:
-
- has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least six months, or
- was baptised (christened) at St Anne’s, or was confirmed and your confirmation was entered in the register of confirmations of the parish or
has regularly attended services at St Anne’s for a period of at least six months.
or
That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:
- has lived in the parish of St Anne’s for a period of at least six months, or
- has regularly attended church services at St Anne’s for a period of at least six months
or
That one of your parents or grandparents was married at St Anne’s.
Please note that a wedding can only be booked at St Anne’s once the criteria have been met.
Funerals
Funerals are organised through an undertaker who will contact the parish office. Arrangements can then be discussed with the vicar and a visit arranged. Please also feel free to contact the Parish Office directly.
